Redubbed
Consent-first AI dubbing for celebrity video
ElevenLabs Startup Grant · In development
Problem
Under a fifth of the world speaks English,1 yet a star's interviews and appearances usually reach fans in one language. Traditional dubbing is built for feature films, not for short clips that peak within days.
Product
AI dubbing from a single upload: Redubbed finds the best moments, cuts them into clips and dubs them in the talent's approved voice, keeping the performance, music and crowd intact. Subtitles are an optional extra.
Why now
- Non-English titles were over a third of Netflix viewing in H2 2025.2
- YouTube opened multi-language audio to millions of creators, who saw over 25% of watch time from non-primary languages on average.3
- EU AI Act transparency duties apply from 2 August 2026,5 and Tennessee's ELVIS Act protects voices from unauthorized AI imitation.6
Market
AI dubbing tools: $783M in 2023, forecast at $1.88B by 2030 in one analyst estimate.4 Estimates vary widely with market definition.
Customers
Talent teams, studios, entertainment channels with licensed footage, and agencies running celebrity campaigns. A long-term business product, not aimed at users aged 18 or under.
Business model
- Subscriptions priced by dubbed minute (planned: $29 and $149 a month)
- Custom contracts for catalogs and studios
- A planned licensing fee on approved voices, shared with talent
Responsible AI
- Voices are cloned only with verified consent, and consent can be revoked
- Each upload records the rights holder and release territory
- Dubs carry machine-readable provenance and visible disclosure
- Footage and voices don't train shared models
Roadmap
- Build (now): core pipeline and consent flow
- Private pilot: talent teams, a few languages, human review
- Public launch: self-serve plans, more languages, lip-sync
- Catalog scale: API, bulk jobs and voice licensing
Why ElevenLabs
Voice is the product. Redubbed plans to build its dubbing on ElevenLabs voice models, with approved voices coming directly from talent or through licensed routes such as the Iconic Marketplace.7 Redubbed follows the same rule as ElevenLabs' policy: no voice without explicit consent.8
Use of the grant
- Test dub quality and voice match across languages and scripts
- Produce dubs for a first pilot with talent teams
- Prove usage and willingness to pay before launch
How we expect to grow
Start with talent teams, whose approval unlocks the voice. Their dubbed channels build proof for self-serve plans, then catalog deals with studios.
Impact
Fans can listen in their own language, and performers keep control and get paid when their voice travels.
